Hi all! Sorry I was MIA last week. This Pediatrics clerkship has been as demanding as it has been rewarding. Last week I had an outpatient visit with the only Pediatric Cardiologist for the entire south part of Puerto Rico (needless to say her office was jam packed!), an Internal Exam, and Standardized Patients. It was a busy week! It was also my last week rotating through Nursery which I loved! I could not get enough of those precious babies! It was definitely an experience I will hold dear in my heart and I learned so much for when I myself become a mother!

This week we began outpatient primary care with our respective Pediatricians and so far it has been great! We get to manage almost the entirety of the patient's visit and that is something that really challenges your knowledge and helps you grow and learn as a physician on your own two feet. I've also been sick since last week and I'll probably stay this way for a while because if there is one thing every kid has it's germs

Since last week was so busy with the clerkship, I was especially excited for the weekend! After spending all of Saturday running errands, I wanted to do something fun on Sunday. We visited the new Famous Dave's in Santa Isabel, PR for the first time and boy, was it delicious! Loved the ribs! After, we enjoyed a lovely Baby Shower for my husband's cousin where we got the chance to spend some time with his incredibly loving family. It was a perfect day!

I bought this bag recently because it reminded me so much of the YSL Blogger Bag but obviously for a fraction of the price! I also bought these shoes because they are almost identical to the classic Chanel Slingbacks. Two dupes in one outfit! Check them out!

The Inside Look: What's in my white coat

August 20, 2016

Hi all! As many of you know from my first post, I'm a third year medical student. Medical school has been a bumpy road with obstacles around each corner for me. Thankfully, I always manage to overcome these obstacles and keep pushing forward to achieve my professional dreams. One day I'll tell you guys all about it. Anyway, I'm currently rotating through Pediatrics and thought it would be kind of fun and different to share what I carry in my white coat with you! Most days I stuff my pockets with way more stuff than pictured here, but these are the bare essentials I always carry with me.

White Coat Clipboard
This is probably the most essential thing I carry in my white coat! Well, second only to my wallet which is kind of essential too. This is definitely a must for any medical student who's beginning rotations. The convenience of having the most daily referenced medical information right in your pocket makes it easier to write progress notes and be on your toes for those pimping moments from your attending. Inside I store my rotation clerkship's schedule, lists of procedures I have to witness and types of patients I have to see to have a complete rotation experience, a table on common pediatric illnesses, and some blank paper for notes.

Nivea Lip Care A Kiss of Care & Color
It's very simple: hospitals are cold, cold gives you chapped lips, you carry a lip balm. I love that this one also gives you a sheer tint of color!

Maxwell Quick Medical Reference and stickers
I have used the Maxwell Quick Medical Reference maybe twice since I got it. I ordered the larger version by accident but actually prefer it to the smaller size everyone has because: 1. I like to be a weirdo with different things 2. you can actually read the text better. That being said I don't think it's something you need to carry around or even need to purchase. These days I just use it to keep the stickers I bought from getting wrinkled and bent (so useful...). I love carrying stickers around during this rotation to distract the especially fussy kids and just to cheer my patients up!

Moleskine Ruled Notebook PocketPilot G2 05Sharpie Highlighter
I bought this Moleskine notebook at a Target while I was in the states recently. I loved the color! I keep this on me to make notes on my patient's status from the handoff and during my interview for the progress notes. I also make sure to take notes during morning rounds and classes. I love using fine pens and this Pilot G2 05 is perfect! The highlighter I keep on me just to, you guessed it, highlight!

3M™ Littmann® Classic II S.E. Stethoscope
My first stethoscope was a gift from my parents when I entered medical school. If you're a medical student, you know how essential this is to perform any physical exam. If you only bring one thing to the hospital, it better be this!

Gloves, band-aid, reflex hammer, diagnostic set (old and out of stock, check out Welch Allyn)
Gloves, band-aids, tongue depressors, gauze, tape, etc. are things that I stuff in my pockets depending on my rotation, my attending, and my patient's needs. I recently started carrying a reflex hammer because I had some patients who required neurological examinations but, this is not something I usually have with me. A diagnostic set complete with an ophthalmoscope and otoscope are a must when you're rotating through Pediatrics! Performing a complete HEENT (head, ears, eyes, nose, and throat) examination is essential in kids.

Wallet (old, love this one!)
Last but not least, you need your wallet! Or some kind of card holder for some cash or a card to be able to buy food whenever your attending gives you the break to! I like carrying one with a pocket because when rotating through Surgery I would use it to store my watch or other small personal items so as to keep them in my scrub's back pocket (never leave personal belongings in the locker room if you don't have a locker!).

The Cobblestone Alley

August 16, 2016

Top/Blusa: A'GACI (short sleeve here) Shorts/Pantalones Cortos: American Eagle (love this fit) Bag/Cartera: Zara (similar here) Sandals/Sandalias: Zara (old, in love with these gold ballet flats!) Jewelry/Joyería: Mejuri ($20 off using this link!)

Hi there! Today I'm sharing a look from this past weekend when my husband and I joined my family for a trip to Old San Juan. Old San Juan is definitely one of my favorite places in Puerto Rico. The picturesque buildings, cobblestone streets, stores and restaurants make it  "must visit" for anyone coming to the island. It was the perfect place to celebrate Monica Puig's victory: Puerto Rico's first olympic gold medal! Writing an in depth travel post on Old San Juan is definitely on my to do list so keep an eye open for that!

A'GACI is a store that opened up in my local mall a couple of months ago but I had never ventured in due to the not-so-appealing mannequins up front. Then there's that one day you've entered every other store in the mall determined to buy something, anything, and you end up going into stores you never thought to before. I was pleasantly surprised! They have a wide variety of pieces and a great price range! And that is definitely the way to my heart: cute cheap clothing! I admit it took some looking but I found some pieces that were right on trend and at an affordable price (although I contained myself and only bought the top pictured here, self control at its finest!).

The Online Shopping Sites I Trust

August 12, 2016

Happy Friday! What better way to start the weekend than spending some time online shopping? I used to be terrified of shopping online, especially for clothes. Through the years I've learned some tips and tricks that I would love to share with you today! The first tip is to always search for coupons on sites like Retail Me Not before hitting that complete order button. I have found such great deals through that website! The following are some of my most trusted sites for online shopping and specific tips for shopping at each one. Enjoy!
I discovered this website while I was still in college and it is still my go to site for jewelry purchases! Anytime I buy an outfit that I know is going to need some type of statement jewelry, I check BaubleBar STAT! They have absolutely gorgeous pieces! I already have quite the collection (could make for an interesting blog post! Interested? Let me know bellow!) and am eager to keep it growing! The best part about their site is that once you subscribe to their emails, you are in the know of every new collection launch and have access to tons of discount codes! Some pieces are expensive but if you can afford the wait, their sales are amazing!

Etsy is handmade heaven! Etsy is a huge website made up of thousands of shops. Think of Etsy as a mall and inside they are many stores filled with amazing finds and handmade beauties! Its a marketplace! People sell everything from vintage items to handmade jewelry, from wedding invitation designs to blog templates (like the one I have!), from clothes to cell phone cases, anything and everything! I bought so many stuff off of Etsy for my wedding and I'm constantly buying personal gifts from there too. Special tip: Always read each stores policy before buying, especially their return policy!

You all know I'm a lover of Forever 21 clothing! I definitely find better quality pieces and more unique options on their website rather than in store. Unfortunately they do not offer discount codes that often but their sales can be pretty good if you don't mind going through pages and pages of options. I prefer filling up my cart and waiting for those discount codes because although they offer free shipping on orders over $50, this option is not available for shipping to Puerto Rico. A great thing about ordering online is that you have the option of returning any piece you didn't like or didn't fit at your local store in exchange for store credit (which is pretty much the same thing as cash in my book)! No need to go through the trouble of returning via post!

I'm sure most of you have owned at least one pair of American Eagle Outfitter jeans in your lifetime! They have always been my favorite and I'm sure they make up 99% of my jean collection. After trying out their high rise jeans a few years back, I've never bought any other cut. High rise jeans are just so much more comfortable and incredibly flattering if you have a cuvier figure!A little trick I've learned is that most of the time their websites stocks way more washes and sizes than they have in store! If you're petite like me, you'll know that the store has very limited short cut options. Online they have the option available in almost every cut and wash! I usually visit the store first and see if there is anything I like, try on what they have, and then go purchase online in my best size! They also tend to have even better discounts online too! And to top it all off, they accept returns in-store!

ASOS is a brand/shopping site that I discovered by following many English Youtubers. They have their own brand clothing line and also sell others like Boohoo, Missguided, River Island, and more. I've made many purchases from their site including bags, shirts, and my favorite, their swimsuits! They have vast range of prices and I've never had any problem with ordering and shipping, although it does take a while for packages to arrive. I highly recommend them!

I am a huge fan of Sephora! With such a wide range of makeup brands and product, its pretty easy to fall in love! The best part is that once you become a Beauty Insider there are so many rewards, discounts and sales available for you! I highly recommend becoming a part of their reward system. This is such a great site to browse for gifts for those special ladies in your life! Their travel size variety is also amazing! I definitely use Retail Me Not the most when purchasing from this site. You can find coupons for so many free deluxe samples and gifts!

Ulta is my go-to site for purchasing drugstore makeup. Although I do most of this shopping at my local pharmacy, Ulta can sometimes have the same products for a cheaper price on top of a great discount! Be sure to check it out next time you're considering a drugstore makeup purchase!

The Wishlist: Sephora

August 10, 2016

It's the middle of the week and besides dreaming about the weekend, I'm also dreaming about these five makeup products!

1 Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Champagne Splits Shimmering Skin Perfector Mineral Blush Duo Prosecco Pop & Pamplemousse ($38)- If you read my post on The Makeup Bag: Splurge Edition you know I love Becca x Jaclyn Hill's Champagne Pop highlighter! Well, she recently came out with a huge collection of more products and a new highlighter shade! I would love to get my hands on this small palette that includes the new highlighter shade, Prosecco Pop, and a blush, Pamplemousse!

2 Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($23-$38)- I've heard so many good things about this powder! I really prefer loose translucent powder for setting my makeup. It just makes everything set beautifully and look flawless! I'm definitely going to give this a try as soon as my current powders run out! I'll let you all know how it handles oil!

3 Marc Jacobs Beauty Air Blush Soft Glow Duo ($42)- I'm definitely a lover of blush. The perfect shade can just illuminate your face and make you appear fresh, happy and alive! This looks like the perfect combination of shades to achieve that naturally flushed look! Put looking at the price tag, this is going to be one of those products I'm going to have to see in store and fall in love with before purchasing it.

4 Supergoop! Hello Sunshine Suncare Starter Kit ($15)- I'm running out of my current sunscreen and was looking for a replacement when I spotted this value set! I've been wanting to try the Supergoop! line for a while becuase I've heard great things about it. This kit contains an eye cream, a CC cream, handcream, an everyday sunscreen, and a serum for only $15! It is definitely going in my cart!

5 Sephora Collection Pro Fan Brush #65 ($27)- As a lover of highlight, you'd be surprised to know that I don't own a good fan brush! I'm dying to add this one to my brush collection! It's been hanging around in my shopping cart for a while, just waiting for that moment that I'll say "Screw it! I want it way too bad!" and hit the "Complete Order" button! Come on, I know we've all been there!

What new makeup product have you bought and loved recently? I'm always happy to add your suggestions to my wishlist!

The Piñita Tee

August 8, 2016

T-shirt/Camisa: H&M Skirt/Falda: Forever 21 (similar here and here) Hat/Sombrero: Forever 21 (similar here) Shoes/Zapatos: Converse Bag/Cartera: Zara (similar here)

My closest friends know I'm a tad bit obsessed with pineapples so when I saw this t-shirt it was love at first sight! I also love a good white tee. I can pair a white tee with just about anything: jeans, denim skirts, maxi skirts, etc.! I got it in a size small so it would be a little baggy but they also have them available in extra small if you want something a little bit more snug. It is just the cutest little white tee I have seen in a while and just had to have it! Denim skirts are also definitely a huge trend right now, and they have been for quite a while. I'm so glad they came back into style in such full force because I've always been a fan! I remember having a denim skirt when I was younger that I would wear to everything and anywhere!

As you already know from previous posts, I started rotations last week. I'm currently rotating in Pediatrics and though its not something I currently envision myself doing, I'm keeping an open mind and am really enjoying it! There's something so fulfilling about helping to cure a little child. I've got to go work on all the homework and presentations I have to do but I hope you all are still enjoying the blog! See you in the next post!
