The Bay

November 28, 2016

Dress/Traje: Forever 21 (in love with this shift dress too!) Jacket/Abrigo: Forever  21(love this distressed one!) Shoes/Zapatos: Converse Bag/Cartera: Gucci

¡Hola! Its been a while since the last fashion post! These are definitely my favorite to prepare for and shoot. This was shot a couple of weeks ago after my grandfather's birthday (87 years old!) by San Juan Bay. My mother was kind enough to lend me her latest purchase, this amazing Gucci bag! Its one of those pieces you could throw on with just a white tee and jeans and instantly elevate the look. Although this one is gorgeous, if I had my own it would probably be this version in beige. A girl can dream!

I have big plans for the blog this December! I'm preparing some gift guides and will be sharing them soon! There might also be a giveaway coming up so stay tuned for that! I've also been considering preparing posts of what I've learned throughout each clinical rotation or each year in medicine. Along with a fellow medical student and friend, we've been offering workshops on the journey to medical school to high school students. I've noticed that most students who are considering a career in medicine really have no idea what's in store for them. I would love to help any of you readers who are interested in these types of post. If you wish to see posts like these let me know by commenting below!

The Hair Care Edit

November 1, 2016

Hola! Today I thought I'd share with you my hair care routine. I probably don't take care of my hair as much as I should but I do make it a habit to do these few things:

Color: My colorist is amazing! I don't know the exact details of what she does on me other than its a balayage/ombre fusion and I love it! For more information on my colorist, message me on the blog's Facebook page.

Wash: I'm not very picky with what shampoo/conditioner I use. I used to love the Herbal Essences Wild Naturals Shampoo & Conditioner but I haven't seen it in stores for a while. I do make it a habit to use purple shampoo and conditioner at least once a weak to keep my hair from looking brassy. This makes a huge difference in my hair color! I enjoy using the Clairol Shimmer Lights set. Every once in a while I also use a hair mask for deep repair, like Macadamia Natural Oil's Deep Repair Masque

Detangle: The longer my hair gets, the more tangled it gets too! To help me deal with this tangled mess I use It's a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product. It is by far the best detangler I have ever used and its also a heat protectant. The downside: it's so expensive! I still haven't found any other leave-in conditioner that works as well for a cheaper price and trust me I've looked. As soon as I find one I'll let you know!

Style: On most days, after I wash my hair and detangle it, I use Bumble and bumble's Don't Blow It for it to dry without frizz and perfect air-dried texture. After its almost 3/4 of the way dry, I braid it into a french braid to achieve natural curls. Its so easy to do!  On days when I want more structured curls like the ones in the photo above, I use the 1-1 ½ Inch Remington T|Studio Salon Collection Pearl Digital Ceramic Curling Wand. Another full post on how I curl my hair to follow!

I hope you find these few tips helpful! Let me know if there's anything you think I should add to my routine!

The Wishlist: Autumn Cravings

October 25, 2016

1. H&M Sweatshirt with Lacing ($29.99) 2. Forever 21 Faux Leather Ankle Boots ($34.90) 3. Forever 21 Pleated Metallic Midi Skirt ($24.90) 4. H&M Slim-fit Leggings ($17.99) 5. H&M Lace Blouse ($49.99) 6. Zara Gathered Hem Dress ($39.90)

1. Bite Beauty Best Bite Redux ($25.00) 2. Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick ($20.00) 3. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Surreal Light ($80.00) 4. Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics ($54.00) 5. Sunday Riley #SquadGoals Skincare Essentials Kit ($90.00)
Hola! Today I'm sharing some pieces I've been keeping an eye on! Autumn is one of my favorite seasons because it reminds me that Christmas is just around the corner (10 Fridays away...but who's counting?)! I've promised myself to keep my wallet closed though. We have special things planned for Christmas so I'm trying my hardest to stay within budget! Still, all these pieces have me a little jittery at the "Place Order" button!

On another note, I just finished my first month rotation for Internal Medicine. It was another great experience! The team of residents and attending I got to work with was excellent. Even though we had a full ward everything ran smoothly and we learned so much throughout the whole process. The interesting part about rotating is that all those conditions and medications that you've spent years learning about are really quite different in real life. Your patient isn't going to appear with the exact same symptoms as you've memorized from the book and each patient is going to be different from the next. And each patient has his/her own treatment plan, one that works for them and needs to be constantly adjusted. It was rewarding to learn so much and have the opportunity to make decisions in my patients' care. We'll see what this next month in a different hospital has to offer...

The Suede Skirt

October 6, 2016

Skirt/Falda: Forever 21 (similar here and here) Shirt/Camisa: ASOS Jacket/Abrigo: Forever 21 Shoes/Zapatos: Forever 21 (similar here, loving these mules!) Necklace/Collar: Zara (similar here)

Hola! I'm completely in love with this look and excited to share it with you guys! As you read in my last post (The Island Fall Edit), I've been preparing my wardrobe for fall. If you missed it, check it out for my tips on fall outfits for tropical weather. I've owned this skirt for maybe a year or two and have gotten so much use out of it! I've paired it with printed blouses, plain shirts like this one, and can even pair it with a sweater, tights and boots if I'm traveling to somewhere cold. It is definitely a versatile piece that's a staple in my closet. Today I paired it with this white button down and denim jacket for a more casual look. And can we have a moment for these shoes? They make my legs look so long and I am definitely on the petite side! I admit, they aren't the most comfortable but who said beauty was comfortable? Well, most of the time comfort is my number one styling factor but for legs like these I'll take the pain!

I'm currently in the second week of my Internal Medicine rotation. So far, so good. I'm lucky enough to have amazing residents who take their time to teach us and actually care that we're learning. Even though I miss all my kids from the Pediatrics rotation, its nice to be back in the hospital setting juggling many responsibilities. I hope these next weeks go smoothly! Even though I already have a specialty in mind, I'm keeping my mind open and enjoying the best from every specialty. Wish me luck!

The Tropical Fall Edit

October 4, 2016

Top/Camisa: Zara Jeans/Mahones: American Eagle Outfitters Shoes/Zapatos: Zara Necklace/Collar: Zara
Hi there! Long time no blog! As I explained on the blog's Facebook page, I've been busy with rotations but am finally back! As fall began a little while ago, I thought it would be fun to share how I prepare for the "change of seasons" while living on a tropical island. The coldest it gets here is around the high 70s and even that starts in December! All the while, my favorite bloggers and youtubers start changing their wardrobes and I feel left out! Here are some tips to keep up with the autumn/fall trends if you live in a tropical paradise like me!

ONE
Fall colors in fresh, breathable clothing
I would love to be wearing gorgeous knit sweaters, tights with over the knee boots, and huge scarves but if I did so I would die of a heat stroke! Instead I try to find items in fall colors like burgundy (midi skirt, dress for a night out, jersey dresstop, bag) or olive/khaki green (blouseskirt, v-neck shirt, off the shoulder topdress) made in breathable materials such as cotton. Plaid prints also start popping up in store but they tend to come in thicker materials. Look for ones that are lighter such as this one. You could also try using materials such as corduroy or suede for that fall feel.

TWO
Light layers
We've all seen those beautiful winter coats that just seem to make any fall/winter outfit look like a million dollars. Unfortunately, they are not a realistic option for someone living on a tropical island. What can you wear instead? Denim jackets, cardigans, bomber jackets, blazers or military jackets are  great options! If you keep whatever you're wearing underneath very light, like a cotton t-shirt, this is a fantastic way to pull together an outfit. If it gets too hot wrap it around your waist! Perfect for keeping the look and even accentuating your figure!

THREE
Fall lipstick and makeup
The easiest way to change your look this fall is to try darker lips! Its the simplest thing you can do to instantly make you look more fall appropriate. You all know I love my Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors and I'm loving the tone Infatuation for this upcoming fall! My all time favorite dark lip would have to be Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in Blackberry Sorbet. Its a gorgeous dark berry color that drys matte and lasts all night long, even through hamburgers! If you're looking to broaden your dark lips collection, check out this new Sephora Favorites: Gimme Some Bold Lip. It includes 6 bold lipsticks for $28! A great gift for a friend...or yourself! Be sure to pair your darker lip with a soft berry toned blush, like this one from Hourglass (Milani dupe here!), for a beautiful, put-together look.

What's your favorite way to revamp your wardrobe for the fall?

The Burgundy Floral

September 8, 2016

Dress/Traje: Forever 21 $29.90 (other gorgeous burgundy dresses here and here) Shoes/Zapatos: Zara (similar here and here) Bag/Cartera: TJ Maxx (brand Franco Sarto; similar here and here)

Anyone remember The Look for Less: Chloé post? You can imagine my excitement when I saw this look-a-like bag at TJ Maxx for just $29.99! It's so similar to the Chloé Mini Hudson Bag! Lucky for you I found some similar ones tagged above and you can probably find one at your local TJ Maxx now. I choose to pair it with this gorgeous burgundy dress from Forever 21 which is the perfect color for the beginning of fall. Living in Puerto Rico, we don't experience seasons and our climate is pretty much the same all year round. The perfect way to still feel on trend during the season change while living in a tropical place is to wear colors like this but in silhouettes that are still fresh and with breathable material.

As for my clinical rotations, I'm still working my outpatient Pediatrics assignment. I've learned so much and find treating and making kids feel better so rewarding. Kids are so strong and resilient, they amaze me! The next couple of weeks are going to be pretty rough though with upcoming OSCE, Internal Exam, and Shelf Exam. I will do my best to keep you posted! Wish me luck!
